Shalin Jyotishi is a nationally recognized writer, researcher, and leader at the intersection of science, workforce, and economic development policy.
He is the founder and director of New America’s Future of Work and Innovation Economy (FOWIE) initiative, which advances policy and practice solutions at the intersection of workforce, economic development, and emerging technology ecosystems to strengthen and expand the middle class. He is also a Visiting Scholar at Arizona State University’s Consortium for Science, Policy, and Outcomes and a Forbes Contributor.
Jyotishi’s expertise has appeared in NPR, Financial Times, Washington Post, Politico, Fast Company, and USA Today. He has testified before Congress and is a frequent speaker at high-level forums, including the United Nations, SXSW, ASU-GSV, and Davos.
Previously, he led research on AI and job quality at the World Economic Forum and oversaw labor economics research at the Burning Glass Institute. Before that, he led initiatives at the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities that equipped university presidents and executives with strategies and practices for university-based economic and workforce development.
For five years, he served as CEO and managing publisher of the internationally acclaimed Journal of Science Policy and Governance. He later served as a Visiting Scholar in Science at the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He is a co-author of a forthcoming MIT Press book, Beyond Sputnik: U.S. Science Policy in the 21st Century. He also held positions at the American Academy of Arts & Sciences and the University of Michigan, and served as a consultant to global nonprofits and philanthropies.
Jyotishi has served on advisory and governing boards for the Bipartisan Policy Center, MIT Science Policy Review, Education Writers Association, InformationWeek, the UN International Telecommunications Union, and the International Economic Development Council. He has been named a Big Bets Fellow by the Rockefeller Foundation, a Council on Foreign Relations Term Member, and a University Innovation Fellow by Stanford University’s d.school.
