Minhazul Islam is a PhD candidate in the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Sustainable Engineering at Arizona State University. He received his bachelor's degree in Water Resources Engineering from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and obtained his MS degree in Civil Engineering from Tennessee Technological University. Minhazul's research experience encompasses several important areas, including:
- De facto wastewater reuse
- PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) occurrence
- Co-occurrence of groundwater contaminants
- Optimization of phosphorus recovery and reuse in wastewater systems
- Central Arizona Phoenix Long-Term Ecological Research (CAP-LTER) project for changes in phosphorus flow
- Development of GIS tools to delineate vegetated highway median swales
- Bias correction of satellite rainfall data
- Environmental flow modeling of rivers to support healthy fish habitats
He has expertise in GIS (ArcGIS, QGIS), hydrological and hydrodynamic modeling (HECRAS, HECHMS, SWAT), urban stormwater modeling (SWMM), machine learning, and programming in Python and R.
PhD in Environmental Engineering (Arizona State University). Tentative Graduation Plan: Fall 2025
