Curtis Sellers began his oboe career at age 10 when he first heard the oboe at his school's "instrument playground." Even at a young age, he noticed the beautiful potential that the oboe had. While most of his friends were drawn to shinier and louder instruments, he looked for the most unique. Despite how much he wanted to quit in the beginning (being quite nearly dragged away from his video games to his first private lesson in fourth grade) he is currently studying Oboe Performance at CU Boulder and pursuing a Music Entrepreneurship Certificate. His primary teacher is Peter Cooper, Principal Oboist of the Colorado Symphony, but he also works with Jason Lichtenwalter, the English Hornist of the Colorado Symphony.
Curtis has also played in numerous ensembles including the CU Boulder Wind Symphony, Symphony Orchestra, and Symphonic Band; St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra; ILMEA Honors Orchestra; Edwardsville Municipal Band; EHS Symphonic Band; Compton Heights Concert Band; and the Alton Youth Symphony.
When he's not holding an oboe, a reed knife, or a pencil, Curtis likes to spend time with friends, whether it be hiking, cooking, working out, playing volleyball, or watching movies.
