Edson Col of Nurs & Hlth Innov
I am currently enrolled at Arizona State University Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation in the Doctor of Nursing Practice program to become a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner. I am also on the board of the Graduate Nurses Organization, chair of Canvas/SunDevilSync and a part-time Clinical Faculty Associate for undergradate nursing students. My passion for women's health began as a student at the University of Iowa College of Nursing, when I became a research assistant to my mentor, Dr. Lisa Segre. Our research focused on perinatal and postpartum depression in the disadvantaged population. I continued to assist Dr. Segre in evaluating data and abstracts to further her research after graduation. I then began my nursing career by interning on the Labor and Delivery Unit at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. I was soon offered a position as a staff nurse on the unit. I helped manage high-risk pregnancies, collaborated with interdisciplinary team members to provide high quality care, educated patients and family members regarding the decisions made in their care, and became a preceptor to nursing students and new nurses on proper labor management and electronic health record documentation. I was nominated for a Daisy Award, which recognizes nurses who have provided extraordinary and compassionate patient care. My passions have remained in providing patient-centered, high-quality sexual and reproductive health care with an emphasis on patient education to all individuals regardless of gender or sexual orientation.
