Qiwen Cheng is a microbial ecologist dedicated to understanding the interactions of microorganisms with each other, with their hosts and with their environment. She is particularly interested in exploring and producing beneficial microbial populations to tackle environmental and human health problems. She is actively involved in interdisciplinary research on (1) the links between human microbiomes and health status, and (2) the effect of environmental contaminants on human microbiome structures and functions. Besides, she has 6+ years of experience in contaminant biotransformations and bioenergy production in environmental systems such as water treatment facilities and landfills. She conducts both experimental and computational studies and uses a combination of environmental engineering, molecular biology and bioinformatics approaches.
