Louise Tung obtained her Master and Ph.D. degrees from the ASU W.P. Carey Computer Information Systems department in 1989 and 1993, respectively. Upon graduation, she joined Microchip Technology to fulfill the goal of gaining industrial working experience with the desire to eventually come back to the academic environment and embark on a teaching career.
Over her 27+ years career in the industry, her responsibilities expanded to a senior management role which provided her visibility to broad, inter-connected, and complex business processes in a global manufacturing environment. Her IT leadership role also gave her opportunities to plan, design, execute, and deliver quality products by a full technology stack of top performing teams she built, led, and trained.
Louise has now returned to her alma mater in 2021 to fulfill her goal of teaching and share her industrial knowledge and experience with students.
Teaching Agenda
Louise's teaching agenda is heavily influenced by her working experience. IT is an interdisciplinary field where the components of people, process, project, and technology all need to work together to produce good quality products. Her teaching agenda is twofold:
- Helping students gain a strong foundation of IT hard skills in business process analysis and design, project management, and technology.
- Preparing students with the proper soft skills and correct mindset to build strong partnerships with the users for greater synergy and alignment.
Being a database course coordinator, Louise is incorporating database technologies, fundamental theories and methodologies along with real-world IT best practices into the course materials. Instilling and fostering professional character and behavior in a global workforce environment is also part of her teaching objective.
