Laura has been a practicing social worker in Arizona for almost 25 years and has been teaching in the ASU School of Social Work since 2012. She is a Licensed Master Social Worker and has a Masters of Social Work (2005) and a Masters of Public Administration (2008) from ASU. Laura is a medical social worker who has a passion for working with vulnerable populations such as children in foster care, children with special health care needs, individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities, individuals experiencing poverty and aging adults.
Through her lens as a social worker, Laura has developed in depth expertise in the following areas:
- Social welfare systems and health care policies
- How individuals and communities are impacted by psychosocial stressors such as poverty, homelessness, mental health and substance use and how social determinants of health compound these challenges
- And how complex medical, developmental and behavioral health conditions impact individuals, their families and the communities in which they live
Laura is a Licensed Master Social Worker and has a Masters of Social Work (2005) and a Masters of Public Administration (2008) from ASU. She currently serves as the Assistant Director of Senior and Adult Services for Maricopa County. Laura considers teaching in the School of Social work to be a great honor and truly enjoys the opportunity to connect with social work students in her courses.
