Rowan Greywolf Moore (he/him/his, Sicangu Lakota) is a PhD student in the sociology program, housed in the Sanford School of Social and Family Dynamics. His research interests are within Indigenous sociology at the crossroads of race/ethnic relations and digital/social media. His research focuses on Indigeneity and portrayals of Indigeneity in film while theorizing the nuanced experiences of Indigenous peoples regarding controlling images, the construction and destruction of the racialized self, and tropes of Indigenous peoples in film. Through his research, Rowan centers Indigenous scholars and Storyworkers while critically engaging with the contributions of Black and Brown scholars similarly displaced at the margins of the academy. In addition, Rowan examines identity formation of Indigenous Queer/Two Spirit peoples and their intersectional relationships with colonization, homophobia, and transphobia. Rowan is also a graduate teaching assistant in the Sanford School and an adjunct instructor at Pima Community College, where he enjoys engaging with students through liberating and Indigenizing pedagogy. Rowan is an avid coffee and tea drinker, a traditional botanist and herbalist, lover of plants and animals, and father of two not-so-tiny humans. On the weekends, you’ll find Rowan on a hiking trail, at a local coffee or plant shop, or glued to his Nintendo Switch.
Rowan stands in solidarity with his Indigenous relatives in Palestine as they actively resist the illegal occupation of their lands. Land Back, everywhere! You can read his open letter regarding the veto of GPSA Assembly Bill 22-36 here.
