Shogo graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology and Kanazawa Institute of Technology with a M.S. in Computer Engineering. He is pursuing his PhD in Speech and Hearing Science at Arizona State University. His intended research focuses on elucidating the mechanisms of a speech disorder called “Stuttering” and achieving his goal of developing technology-based treatments and helping people who stutter. He worked on robot control as an undergraduate, machine learning analysis using EEG and vocal fold vibration signals as a master's thesis, and has done an internship in stuttering research using EEG and MRI at Gunma University in Japan. In the future, he plans to engage in interdisciplinary stuttering research that is not biased toward perspectives from only engineering or medicine, but also includes other fields such as psychology and linguistics.
