Lady Maelee's Biography
Maelee has about 14 years experience teaching composition (writing) at the college level. In sophomore year in college, one of her instructors was such an inspiration that she caught the 'teaching spirit'. She immediately began my pursuit of higher degrees so that she could one day be the muse for her own students.
Writing is one of Maelee's passions. In fact, aside from academic writing, she and her husband have authored six feature-length screenplays. Their first success in screenwriting came in 1999 when they optioned a screenplay with Manga Entertainment in Chicago. Since then Maelee has had material with Disney, Warner, and Big Talk Productions. Recently their screenplay, CONfounded, was screened by Will Ferrell in 2016. The two have written two short film projects since 2018: The Fast Lane and We Three; spiritually motivated inspirational films, one of which may go to Cannes in 2023.
Maelee, a non-traditional student who started college later in life, earned Bachelor of Science in Career & Technical Education from NAU, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. The program was focused on both pedagogy and adult learning theory, which provided a solid foundation for a college teaching career.
Studying for her first masters degree, she was also awarded a teaching assistantship during which she taught English 105 & 205 to undergrads at NAU. It was a fantastic experience and fueled her passion for teaching, further. Her first masters degree: English with a specialization in Technical Writing, was hard-earned as she faced many challenges, including health complications from living in the high altitude in Flagstaff, Arizona. In the end, she earned her M.A. degree with Distinction and graduated Summa Cum Laude, the highest honors.
Maelee's second masters degree: an MBA, with a specialization in Management Information Systems and Big Data was the most challenging program she had ever undertaken. She graduated in August 2020 in a virtual graduation march and ceremony, against the pandemic backdrop. In her dayjob, Maelee works in Human Resources on a leadership team in Organizational Effectiveness.
Maelee enjoys leading others through positive changes and in making improvements. She has always been a developer of people and her love for teaching and writing has also grown in parallel with her HR career. Maelee loves to help her students succeed from classroom to career.
In 2021 Maelee and her husband were bestowed the official courtier titles: Lord and Lady, granted by Queen Elizabeth II. She is an American - first and foremost, but she is also now: Lady Maelee.
