Valerie Flores-Lamb is a third generation native Arizonan and proud first-generation college graduate. She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Loyola University Chicago, where she wrote an Honors Thesis exploring the metalinguistic awareness and strength of bilingual preschoolers. Following graduation, she returned to south Phoenix to teach second grade under the fellowship of Teach For America. These combined experiences fueled her passion to return to Chicago to pursue graduate school, exploring the cognitive and academic strengths of Latino students in the US. At Loyola, she completed a master’s and Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology, with a concentration in Statistics. While in Chicago, she was fortunate to receive extensive training in the neuroscience methodology of electroencephalography (EEG) to help inform her investigations on the executive functions of bilingual students who translate frequently for their families.
Flores-Lamb currently teaches several psychology courses at ASU including Developmental Psychology, Introduction to Psychology, Research Methods, and Psychological Disorders. She enjoys teaching and mentoring a diverse body of students at ASU and supporting their professional success beyond the university.
