Ray served the University as its Associate Vice President for Integrated Business Relationships. He retired in 2015.
For several years Ray served ASU as Associate Vice President for University Business Services and its Sustainability Officer for University Operations. He was responsible for promoting sustainable practices in all areas of the University and developing a long term strategic plan for institutional sustainability, including climate neutrality, zero waste for materials and water, activating an engaged community and promoting principled practices. He was also responsible for most of the university’s business services, auxiliary business services and environmental health and safety. His operations were recognized for two President’s Awards for Innovation, two Governor’s Recognition Awards and four NACUBO awards for cost reduction and process improvement.
Ray served two terms on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Educational Procurement (NAEP) and served as its president. He served on the Board of Directors of E&I, the nation’s largest purchasing cooperative serving higher education. Ray is the recipient of the Bert C. Ahrens Award from NAEP, its highest form of recognition for extended service to the profession, and the David H. Lord Award for contributions to cooperative purchasing in higher education. He has served as faculty for NACUBO, NAEP and NACAS professional management institutes.
