Robert Brems currently serves as the Director of the Office of Strategy and Innovation at the Arizona State University Police Department. With over a dozen years of experience in law enforcement and emergency management within a higher-ed environment, Robert utilizes his extensive skill set to advance strategic projects and initiatives that positively contribute to the success of the University. Robert's educational background includes a Master of Public Administration (MPA), a Master of Arts (MA) in Emergency Management and Homeland Security, and a Bachelor's in History and General Studies from Arizona State University.
Robert's career with ASU's Police Department began in 2010, with a variety of roles, including Police Aide, Lead Police Aide, Police Property and Evidence Technician, and Emergency Operations Center (EOC) coordinator. His responsibilities have encompassed overseeing Emergency Operations Center facilities, grant proposal writing, managing the civilian field training program, leading special assignments, and much more. One of Robert's significant achievements includes designing and implementing the Campus Safety Aide program, which addressed staffing issues and enhanced data analysis.
His numerous FEMA and Arizona Division of Emergency Management certifications demonstrate Robert's commitment to continuous learning and professional development. Robert's competencies in areas like emergency management, organizational development, project management, public administration, and various specialized certifications illustrate his adaptability, self-motivation, and analytical problem-solving skills.
In addition to his professional pursuits, Robert is an Eagle Scout and has a lifelong love for learning, embracing new challenges, and encouraging others to realize their goals. Outside of work, he enjoys hiking, cycling, woodworking, and spending quality time with his family.
Robert's contribution to the University's safety, his dedication to professional excellence, and his active involvement in academic research reflect a holistic approach to law enforcement in a higher education setting. He continues to explore the intersection of AI and law enforcement through his doctoral research, aligning his work with the evolving needs and strategic priorities of the ASU community.
Robert Brems has a rich educational background from Arizona State University, where he obtained four degrees. He earned a Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) in 2012, followed by a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in History in 2016. Pursuing his interest in emergency management, he completed a Master of Arts (MA) in Emergency Management and Homeland Security in May 2019. Robert then furthered his expertise with a Master of Public Administration (MPA), which he successfully completed in December 2022.
Currently, Robert is a doctoral candidate at Arizona State University, working on an EdD degree. His dissertation and problem of practice lie at the intersection of artificial intelligence and law enforcement within a higher educational setting. This focus demonstrates his commitment to integrating technology and modern methodologies into his law enforcement and emergency management roles.
