Dr. Amber Chanel Coleman (she/her/hers) is a curator, artist, educator, and researcher, based in Phoenix, AZ. She is currently an Assistant Professor of Art Education at Arizona State University. Her praxis centers the lens of Black feminisms, critical pedagogical strategies, and arts-based research as she investigates underrecognized experiences and reimagines methods for engagement within the visual arts and education. Dr. Coleman received the 2024 Elliot Eisner Doctoral Research Award in Art Education from the National Art Education Association. She has publications in the Journal for Cultural Research in Art Education, International Journal of Lifelong Learning in Art Education, and Studies in Art Education. She recently acted as a guest co-editor for Volume 76 of the Art Education journal on the subject of “Teaching in Tumultuous Times,” co-founded the African diasporic art collective The Ubuntu Project and co-curated their Art Bridging Borders virtual exhibition in Spring 2024, and co-curated the Getting to the Root exhibition here at ASU in Spring 2025.
