Long Bio
Mary serves as the Director of Biosafety and Biosecurity in Environmental Health and Safety. In this role, Mary leads the Biosafety and Safety Education teams.
Before joining ASU in September 2022, Mary worked in the safety and government administration industries for over 20 years. An Army veteran, Mary served our country for eight years as a Medical Laboratory Technician. Mary served as a Senior Inspector with the Federal Select Agent Program for 15 years. Her duties included ensuring compliance with federal regulations, reviewing and approving applications for work with select agents and toxins, conducting site visits and inspections at over 400 biosafety level (BSL) 2, 3, and 4 facilities domestically and internationally, and training and mentoring new inspectors.
In her free time, Mary enjoys volunteering with Relay for Life, mentoring young adults, and traveling with her husband.
