Yang Soon Ju (Elizabeth) is a designer, illustrator, and entrepreneur focusing on modest womenswear, with a MFA in Design Studies and a BFA in Fashion Design from Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts (VCUarts).
She has engaged with numerous projects/events and developed designs/collections in partnership with community organization: to name a few, Doha Film Institute, Tim Makower Architects, Sidra Medicine/Hospital, Heya Arabian Fashion Exhibition, Doha Festival City, Galleries Lafayette, Tasmeem Biennial Art and Design Conference, and M7, Qatar Museums for Christian Dior: Designer of Dream Exhibition.
Her entrepreneurial positions in Korea, Singapore, Thailand, and Qatar span two decades, ranging from founding an English-speaking school; textile trading; and designing/producing household items and specialty clothing, as well as marketing those products, to consulting in financial auditing/ bookkeeping and business management.
In addition to her entrepreneurial initiatives, she is a dedicated academic. As her interests revolve around intersecting fashion design with discursive design through a multi-disciplinary lens, her research in Fashion Design is forward-looking and provides critical insights into the role, form, and function of fashion within the lived human experience.
Prior to joining ASU FIDM, Ju has taught a dynamic range of courses in the Fashion Design program, in addition to her instruction in the Art Foundation and the community education programs. Her teaching areas include Fashion Drawing, Computers for Fashion Design, Digital Jewelry and Accessories, Introduction to the Fashion Industry, Construction, Draping, and Patternmaking.
