Dr. Howard Nelson has been a professional in the graphic communications industry for 45 years. He holds three journeyman cards in graphic production disciplines, has been a technical sales representative for a major film manufacturer, and has held positions in production, production management, senior management and sales. Dr. Nelson is in his fourth year of teaching undergraduate and graduate courses at ASU. He also has 8 years of prior university teaching experience at the undergraduate level. Dr. Nelson writes and teaches curriculum for courses that build a student's skills in basic graphic arts, electronic premedia, offset press operation, post-press and finishing methods, publication production, customer service, print estimating, and graphic arts quality management. He has experience designing and teaching courses using distance-learning technology to deliver course material at multiple sites simultaneously. Dr. Nelson's training experience was as the director of the Milwaukee Graphic Arts Institute, a graphic arts industry-training program for employed adult students. That experience included classroom teaching, curriculum planning and development, educational program development, school facility development, and program administration for training graphic arts industry professionals. He served in that position for 14 years. He has also been an active participant in the 2+2+2 school-to-work educational model, building educational partnerships between high schools, technical colleges and the university system, to better serve the needs of students and industry. Dr. Nelson is a graduate of Milwaukee Area Technical College with an Associate in Applied Science in Printing and Publishing, a graduate of Stritch University in Milwaukee Wisconsin with a BS in Business Management. His graduate work was done at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee where he earned a MS in Adult Education Administration, and at the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis Minnesota where he earned his doctorate in Educational Leadership.
