Amy Hodgson is a Faculty Associate in the School of Social Work at Arizona State University. She holds a Master of Social Work from Arizona State University and a Master of Public Administration with an emphasis in Government Policy from Grand Canyon University. She is a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) and a Certified Domestic Violence Advocate.

Amy brings more than a decade of experience working across child welfare, crisis response, public administration, healthcare, and clinical social work. Her extensive career with child welfare in Arizona included serving as a Child Safety Specialist, Program Supervisor for investigations, Healthy Families Statewide Program Manager, and Quality Assurance Compliance Officer. In these roles, she provided staff supervision and training, managed statewide programs and budgets, conducted practice and quality improvement reviews, analyzed data and systemic trends, and worked to strengthen outcomes for children and families.

Her direct practice experience includes crisis response with a fire department, where she supported individuals and families experiencing traumatic and crisis situations including fires, deaths, mental health crises, domestic violence, and other emergencies. She also completed her medical social work field placement at Banner University Medical Center, providing psychosocial assessments, care coordination, crisis intervention, discharge planning, and resource support for patients and families. Amy currently practices as a therapist in a private practice, providing clinical services to clients with a particular focus on veterans of the armed forces.

Teaching and professional training are central to Amy's professional identity. Amy's teaching is grounded in the belief that social work is both a profession of skill and a profession of purpose. She strives to bring real-world experiences, critical thinking, and practical application into the classroom while encouraging students to recognize the meaningful impact social workers can have on individuals, families, systems, and communities.
