Ashley Harrison is currently pursuing a PhD in Applied Mathematics. She graduated from the University of Pikeville in May 2023 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics (minor in Chemistry).
During her undergraduate studies, she participated in an internship at Bit Source, a small technology business in Pikeville, Kentucky. Bit Source was founded as a means to provide equivalent income jobs to displaced workers from coal mines in Eastern Kentucky. At Bit Source, she worked on an applied project in machine learning. She also participated in the NSF REU Site in Mathematical Analysis and Applications at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. Her project there related to mathematical physics and linear algebra and was focused on the asymmetric simple exclusion process (ASEP) as it is relevant to studying the dynamics of forced and pinned polymer loops. In the summer following her graduation in May, she participated in the Enhancing Diversity in Graduate Education (EDGE) for Women program, which was hosted at Brown University. There, she took relevant graduate preparatory classes and attended research colloquiums.
She is passionate about teaching. She has several years of tutoring and teaching experience during both her undergraduate and graduate programs.
