Long Bio
WanTing Lee is a PhD candidate in Political Science at ASU's School of Politics and Global Studies. Her research examines power competition, economic interdependence, and security dynamics, with a focus on U.S.-China-Taiwan relations. Her dissertation argues that contemporary great power competition extends beyond coercive deterrence to include gray-zone tactics, economic statecraft, and political influence, and that smaller states are not merely passive targets but can act as strategic players in shaping these dynamics. Beyond her academic work, Lee has professional experience in strategic communication and information operations in the Taiwan military. This background informs her interest in how narratives, signaling, and economic leverage shape international security outcomes. She will return to Taiwan and join the faculty at the National Defense University after completing her program.
