Thomas Spencer was born in Portland, Oregon on April 11th, 1991. He attended Mountain View High School in Vancouver, Washington graduating in 2010. Shortly after graduating, he enlisted in the Marine Corps as an Infantryman. Upon completion of entry level training, he executed orders to Second Battalion, Fourth Marines where he served as a gunner and Machine Gun Team Leader. In September 2011, he deployed to Now Zad, Helmand Province, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Upon his return from Afghanistan in March 2012, he was screened and selected for Marine Corps Embassy Security Group, serving in Frankfurt Germany, Caracas Venezuela and Tokyo Japan.
In December 2015, he executed orders to First Battalion, First Marines (1/1) in Camp Pendleton, California. During his time with 1/1 he held the billet of Section Leader, deploying to Darwin, Australia in 2016 and the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit in 2017 In February 2019, he received orders to Marine Corps Security Battalion, Bangor, Washington.
While stationed at Bangor, he served as a Section Leader and Platoon Sergeant for Bravo Company, 5th Platoon. He would later be selected to serve as chief instructor of Strategic
Weapons Facility Pacific Orientation Program.
In August 2021, SSgt Spencer executed orders to current duty station at Golf Company, Second Battalion, Twenty Fifth Marines where he was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant and presently serves as a Platoon Commander.
