Kim joined ASU’s ETX Center on May 8, 2023, and serves as the Product Owner for REAL CHEM, a collaborative initiative between ASU and Carnegie Mellon University’s Open Learning Initiative (OLI), supported by funding from the Gates Foundation. In this role, she leads product strategy and development, translating research from the science of human learning into the design of technology-mediated learning environments. Her work also supports embedded research efforts that both continuously improve the learner experience and contribute to the broader learning sciences.
Prior to joining ASU, Kim spent three years at Amazon as a Learning Solution Architect, where she partnered with learning engineers to design workforce training programs, leverage learning analytics for actionable insights, and improve instructional effectiveness at scale. During this time, she also co-taught the Ed Design course in Carnegie Mellon’s Master of Education Technology and Applied Learning Science (METALS) program.
Over the past decade, Kim has led and managed initiatives aimed at advancing success for nontraditional STEM learners. She collaborated with the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning on the Statway™ statistics pathway. At CMU’s Open Learning Initiative, she directed iterative course improvement projects for Probability and Statistics and Causal and Statistical Reasoning. She also managed development of the Certified Associate in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CAHIMS) course, created through a partnership among Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training (TAACCCT) grantees.
