"Rick" Perez (he/him/his) is the Program Director of Borderlands Studios where he oversees all programmatic and administrative activities. Prior to joining Borderlands Studios Rick was the Executive Director of the International Documentary Association (IDA) and the Director of Acquisitions and Distribution strategies at GBH | WORLD Channel. Rick also worked at Sundance Institute as Director of Creative Partnerships where he developed, designed, and led artist-based filmmaking programs. As a filmmaker, Rick directed and executive produced the feature documentary Cesar's Last Fast, a project that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and which the New York Times recognized as one of 20 essential films that captures the Latinx experience. Rick was also an executive producer at Brave New Films where he executive produced two documentary series and directed a third. He currently serves on the board of Brave New Films. Rick is a native of Los Angeles and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Visual and Environmental Studies from Harvard University.
