Anie Partin

Amanda “Anie” Patterson Partin is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the College of Integrative Sciences’ Writer’s Studio. Dr. Partin earned her PhD in Rhetoric, Writing, and Professional Communication from East Carolina University. Her dissertation research focused on multicultural belonging in non-denominational Christian spaces. Her interests at the intersections of cultural and maternity rhetorics also motivated her to become a DONA International Certified Birth Doula and Bradley Method Certified Instructor. She has published in Birthing Magazine on racial disparities in maternal care.

Dr. Partin enjoys editorial work and provides academic editing services as a freelance editor. She has also served as Book Review Editor for College English and as an Assistant Editor for the Writing Administration Journal.

Her teaching is grounded in writing center principles and a commitment to supporting writers from varied linguistic, cultural, educational, and professional backgrounds. She has particular experience working with multilingual writers, veteran and military-affiliated students, and writers navigating questions of identity and belonging. Dr. Partin emphasizes individualized, high-contact support that helps students develop confidence and make purposeful choices as writers. She also guides students in critically considering the ethical use, or intentional refusal, of generative AI as part of the writing process.
