Undergraduate StudentBusiness (Information Security)
W. P. Carey School of Business
Louis Hernandez is an Information Security major at Arizona State University’s W.P. Carey School of Business, concentrating on cybersecurity, digital risk management, and business continuity. He started college in 2004 at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, just outside of Denver, before embarking on a 14-year paralegal career in the legal and real estate industries. He was a legal assistant who specialized in handling evictions for most major banks, performing in high-stakes legal settings in New York City, Salt Lake City, and back home in Denver.
Years of working with complicated legal contracts, risk assessment, and compliance with regulations made Louis curious about how businesses protect sensitive data and maintain business continuity. This qualified him to transition into Information Security, where his background in law provides a unique perspective on cybersecurity challenges. He was named to ASU’s Dean’s List for academic performance in the Spring of 2025.
His work greatly emphasizes artificial intelligence and its implications on governance, digital ethics, and risk mitigation. Louis believes the next generation of cyber practitioners must be trained to manage threats and the advanced technologies powering them.
His professional focus areas include governance structures, the human element of security, and emerging international tech policy. He believes that more secure systems can be constructed with razor-sharp technical skills and ethical, empathetic professionals who bring lived experience to the table.
Outside the classroom, Louis works as an Uber driver, hikes the Colorado Rockies with his three-year-old beagle, and volunteers for LGBTQ+ organizations.
