With a degree and a background in journalism and media, I’ve been able to leverage technology in newsrooms and businesses alike. I have traveled extensively and pride myself on my ability to communicate and work with people from all backgrounds and walks of life.
Back in 2012, a coworker referred to me as a monarch when I absolutely ruled a tedious project, and the moniker has stuck. I have fully leaned into the concept and adopted it as part of my personal brand. It has driven me to be the best leader I can, and it still makes me laugh when colleagues curtsey or bow to me during meetings.
I have a deep well of energy and like staying involved in many journalism and community organizations. I am the past president of the Phoenix Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists (spending 3 years as president, 2 as vice-president), a former board member of the First Amendment Coalition of Arizona, and a founding member of the AZ Women in Media. I’m also active in the Phoenix tech community, participating in events such as Ignite Phoenix, TechPHX and LaidOffCampAZ.
I’m a proud graduate of the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism, where I interned for KTVW (the local Univision affiliate), worked on the 2008 Associated Press Elections Results Reporting Team and was the winner of two back-to-back design scholarships from the Arizona Press Club.
In my full-time position at ASU, I lend my social media expertise to the W. P. Carey School of Business and work closely with the Marketing & Communications office. I’m always looking for ways to help people better understand marketing in the digital age and have spoken to groups over the years on topics including the digital future of journalism, web design, content marketing, and social media.
