Kyle Benowitz is an evolutionary geneticist who is primarily interested in the question of how social interactions influence the course of evolution. He currently focuses on the study of indirect genetic effects (IGE), wherein the genotype of one individual influences the phenotype of another. His lab uses behavioral studies alongside quantitative, population, and comparative genomic approaches to seek to understand the genes associated with IGEs and how they evolve. The primary study organisms in the lab are burying beetles, which are carrion beetles that provide advanced parental care to their offspring.
Benowitz also collaborates on projects related to multilevel selection, parental care in terrestrial isopods, the genetic basis of insecticide resistance, and complex trait genetics in desert-adapted flies.
Ph.D. Genetics, University of Georgia, 2017.
B.A. Biology, University of Virginia, 2012.
