Wai Allen is an Assistant Professor in the School of Earth and Space Exploration at Arizona State University. Wai is a sedimentologist whose research interests include the interaction of surface and tectonic processes involved in the progressive development of sedimentary basins in a variety of tectonic settings, geochronology, clastic depositional processes, and geoscience data stewardship practices. Additionally, Wai is an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation and is a first generation scholar.
PhD. Purdue University
MSc. Purdue University
BSc. Fort Lewis College
My research interests include understanding large-scale tectonic processes involved in the development of sedimentary basins over geologic timescales. My research integrates a field geologic methods (i.e., geologic mapping, detailed measurements of stratigraphic section) and analytical approach that utilizes U-Pb zircon geochronology to answer questions related to timing of deposition, changes in depositional systems, and provenance.
My active research projects include:
1) Cenozoic timing and displacement along the Denali fault system in southern Alaska
2) Devonian sedimentation and provenance of the Temple Butte Formation in the Grand Canyon
I am currently interested in recruiting students to join my research group in the School of Earth and Space Exploration. Please contact me at wai.allen@asu.edu
