Prior to joining Arizona State University, Dr. Kimaro served as the Principal Conservation Officer for Tanzania National Parks. In this role, he worked across several renowned parks, including Serengeti, Gombe, and Tarangire National Parks, where he held diverse responsibilities encompassing ecology, tourism, community engagement, and law enforcement. During his time at Tanzania National Parks, Dr. Kimaro utilized his expertise in ecology to plan, oversee, and conduct ecological research. Additionally, he applied his knowledge of Education for Sustainability to design, implement, deliver, and evaluate conservation education programs for communities living near the parks.
Following extensive experience in ecology, conservation, and tourism, Dr. Kimaro transitioned to academia, joining Arizona State University as an Assistant Teaching Professor. Today, Dr. Kimaro enjoys educating students who will become champions in a variety of professional fields of parks and recreation.
Dr. Kimaro is deeply committed to developing innovative approaches to address sustainability challenges, such as climate change, while promoting the advancement of low-impact tourism, including eco-tourism and low-carbon travel. With a strong background in conservation, ecology, education, and tourism, Dr. Kimaro employs a range of tools, including geospatial technology and other quantitative methods, to extrapolate from fine to coarse spatial scales and connect processes, such as social-ecological processes to patterns.
