Siyuan Song is an associate professor in the Del E. Webb School of Construction within the School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment at Arizona State University (ASU). Prior to joining ASU, she was an assistant professor in the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering at the University of Alabama from June 2021 to August 2024, and an assistant professor in the School of Construction and Design at the University of Southern Mississippi from August 2018 to June 2021. Song also worked as a postdoc at the University of Alabama from May to August 2018. Song earned her Ph.D. and M.Sc. in civil engineering from the University of Alabama in December 2017 and 2015, respectively, and she obtained her B.S. in construction engineering and management from Suzhou University of Science and Technology in 2014.
Song’s research focuses on construction safety and health, workplace safety training, workforce development, artificial intelligence in construction, automation and robotics, and engineering education. She has secured approximately $2 million in federal funding for her research and outreach activities and has published over 40 peer-reviewed journal articles, conference proceedings, and book chapters. As the founder and principal investigator of the Safety Automation and Visualization Environment (SAVE) Laboratory, she has mentored more than 30 graduate and undergraduate students in research projects related to worker safety and health. Song and her team have delivered more than 50 presentations at various professional conferences and events.
Song has taught a variety of construction engineering and management courses including but not limited to Safety Engineering and Management, Senior Design, Cost Estimating, Building Information Modeling, Revit, and AutoCAD. She has also coached student competition teams such as ABC, ASC, and DBIA. An ASCE ExCEEd Teaching Fellow and a certified member of Quality Matters (APPQMR), Song is dedicated to integrating technology and innovation into her courses to inspire and motivate her students.
