Justin D. Bina is an assistant professor in the Morrison School of Agribusiness at Arizona State University. He earned his Ph.D. in agricultural economics from Kansas State University, where his research and outreach addressed price risk management, wholesale meat processing, and consumer food spending. His dissertation examined health- and fitness-conscious consumers’ demand for retail animal protein.
Bina’s research focuses on nontraditional determinants of food demand, including physical activity, weight loss strategies, and the use of GLP-1 medications, with particular attention to implications for food supply chains and protein markets. His work has been published in journals such as Food Policy, Agricultural Economics, and the Journal of Agricultural and Resource Economics. He is a key contributor to the Meat Demand Monitor project funded by the U.S. Beef and Pork Checkoff programs.
Across research, teaching, and outreach, Bina emphasizes transparency and effective communication to support industry and policy decision-making.
