Matt Janot-Schuler’s research interests lie primarily in the philosophy of artificial intelligence, ethics, and philosophy of mind: recently, his focus has been on the latter field's intersection with the epistemology of modality, given that the success of many arguments in the philosophy of mind hinges upon the success of the inference from conceivability to possibility. He has additional interests both in applied ethics and the philosophy of science.
He has taught courses in Ethics, Epistemology, Philosophy of Mind, Symbolic Logic, and Philosophy of Science. Since 2025, he has also served as faculty coach for the Lincoln Center's Ethics Bowl, which he quite enjoys.
Prior to joining the School of Historical, Philosophical and Religious Studies faculty, he taught for University of South Florida, Valencia College, University of Arizona, and Virginia Tech.
In his spare time, he enjoys writing and recording music as a one-man band called Count to Five.
