Dr. Andrea Gunoe is the director of The Empty Space performance space in the Hugh Downs School of Human Communication. She is an interdisciplinary scholar working at the intersections of performance and the military. She received her PhD from the University of Pittsburgh with her dissertation titled March of Militarism: Contemporary Nationalism through Military Spectacle. She received her MA from Brigham Young University. In addition to performance in the military, Dr. Gunoe’s active areas of scholarly work include gender and masculinity, affect, and trauma. She has taught courses across Performance Studies, Communication, and Theatre at Kennesaw State University, The University of Pittsburgh, and Brigham Young University. Dr. Gunoe is also a theatre practitioner. She is a director, choreographer, and dramaturg.
