Long Bio
Emma Kitchen received her PhD in History, focusing on History of Science, from the University of Chicago in 2023. In her research, she draws on the history and philosophy of evolutionary biology, examining the relationship between time, biological processes, and human history. Her latest research collaborations with Dr. Scott Lidgard examined the historical and metaphorical meanings of “living fossils” (organisms that seemingly persisted unchanged over time).
Her teaching dives into history’s impact on contemporary science, medicine, and public scientific engagement. She's enjoyed working with natural history museums, collaborating with scientists, and teaching courses on public relationships to science via the horror genre.
