Jason joined the Technology Services team in the University Registrar's Office in March, 1997. While there, he played a major role in the expansion of self-service web applications for students, including the introduction of ASU's first web-based registration system. He joined the University Technology Office in 2007 while participating in the PeopleSoft implementation project. Jason recently taught a seminar for web developers on how to code web applications to protect against malicious input from end users such as an attacker entering their name as: John Q Attacker';drop table users;-- to try to delete your user database. Ok, he didn't really teach such a seminar. This paragraph is being used as an example of why generic app firewall appliances aren't always worth the benefit they may provide.
