Mandeep Potu is a Ph.D. student in the Del E. Webb School of Construction at Arizona State University (ASU) and a Research Assistant in the Safety, Automation, and Virtual Engineering (SAVE) Lab, where he is advised by Dr. Siyuan Song. His research focuses on advancing the future of the construction industry through the integration of artificial intelligence, robotics, automation, and data-driven decision-making to improve safety, productivity, and workforce well-being.
Mandeep's primary research interests include construction safety, artificial intelligence in construction, construction robotics, workforce development, and human health and performance in the built environment. His work explores how emerging technologies such as computer vision, machine learning, wearable sensing, and autonomous systems can be applied to identify hazards, enhance situational awareness, support worker training, and create safer and more efficient construction jobsites. He is particularly interested in developing human-centered AI solutions that bridge the gap between technological innovation and practical implementation in the construction industry.
Prior to beginning his doctoral studies, Mandeep earned a Master of Science in Construction Management and Technology from Arizona State University, where he developed expertise in project management, construction technologies, sustainable construction, and research methodologies. His academic and professional experiences have strengthened his interest in leveraging interdisciplinary approaches to address complex challenges facing the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry.
At the SAVE Lab, Mandeep collaborates on research projects involving intelligent safety monitoring, AI-enabled risk assessment, robotics applications for construction, and technology-driven workforce development. His research aims to improve occupational safety and health while supporting the digital transformation of the construction industry through innovative, evidence-based solutions. He is committed to translating research outcomes into practical tools and strategies that benefit industry professionals, policymakers, and researchers alike.
Mandeep's long-term goal is to contribute to the advancement of intelligent and resilient construction systems through impactful research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and industry engagement. He is passionate about developing technologies that not only improve construction performance but also enhance the safety, health, and quality of life of construction workers.
