Ewan Tristan Booth was born in Shorewood, IL. He received his master's and doctorate from the Hugh Downs School of Human Communication at Arizona State University, while his bachelor's was in broadcasting production from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at ASU. Booth's primary teaching interests are gender and communication, identity, diversity, rhetoric, GLBTQ studies, and fan/fandom studies. His articles and essays have appeared in the Western Journal of Communication, Communication Studies, the book Transgender Communication Studies: Histories, Trends, and Trajectories (2015), and the book Queer Communication Pedagogy (2020). His article, “Sitting in Silence: Managing Aural Body Rhetoric in Public Restrooms” (2016, Communication Studies, second author: Leland G. Spencer) received the 2017 Anita Taylor Award for Outstanding Published Article or Book Chapter from the Organization for the Study of Communication, Language & Gender (OSCLG).

Dr. Booth's area of emphasis is rhetoric, focusing on rhetorical strategies of individuals and groups whose social identities are marginalized in society, particularly those relating to gender, sex, and sexuality; media representation of marginalized identities; impression management; corporeal rhetoric; the medicalization of non-hegemonic social identities; and fan/fandom studies.
