Darlene Moyer is a dedicated physician educator with expertise in both Family Medicine and Geriatric Medicine. She is currently serving as an Associate Director at the HonorHealth Family Medicine Residency Program at HonorHealth Osborn and as Core Faculty within the HonorHealth Geriatric Medicine Fellowship Program. Dr. Moyer has a strong commitment to advancing medical education, clinical practice, and patient care. With over 20 years of experience in both clinical practice and education, Dr. Moyer works diligently to inspire the next generation of physicians and healthcare professionals.
Education and Training: Dr. Moyer received her medical degree from George Washington University School of Medicine and completed residency training in Family Medicine at Scottsdale Healthcare. She completed a Faculty Development Fellowship through the University of Arizona School of Medicine – Phoenix Campus. In addition, she completed a Geriatric Medicine Fellowship at HonorHealth. She also participated in the Emerging Leaders Fellowship program through the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine.
Clinical Expertise and Interests: Dr. Moyer has a strong clinical background in general Family Medicine, with a particular interest in Geriatric Medicine. As an educator, she integrates her clinical experience into teaching, helping students and residents translate theoretical knowledge into real-world patient care, and understanding how patient care extends outside of the office and hospital settings. Dr. Moyer help to establish a Medical Simulation program for the Family Medicine Program. She now serves as the Co-Chair for the HonorHealth Simulation Committee and continues to lead Simulation training for resident physicians. Dr. Moyer has also served as the Chair for the HonorHealth Faculty Development Committee. In this role she helped to develop and implement numerous workshops and online learning material to support the needs of GME faculty at HonorHealth. She is an active member of the American Geriatric Society Education Committee, including the Resident Subcommittee.
Teaching Philosophy and Approach: Dr. Moyer's teaching philosophy centers on collaborative learning, teaching critical thinking skills, and finding joy in caring for patients as individuals. Passionate about mentorship, Dr. Moyer emphasizes key teaching principles, such promoting clear communication, strong teamwork, and applying critical thinking skills that consider the big picture in patient care. She is committed to creating an inclusive learning environment that encourages engagement, finding meaning in practice, and clinical curiosity.
Scholarly Interests: In addition to her teaching role, Dr. Moyer is actively involved in scholarly activity. She is a published author, has presented her work at numerous conferences, has served as a peer reviewer for several journals, and most recently recorded some Geriatric-related podcasts.
Awards and Recognitions: Dr. Moyer has been recognized for her outstanding contributions to medical education and patient care. Her awards include being recognized as Teacher of the Year for the Family Medicine Residency Program, a Curricular Innovation Award for her work in Simulation training, and an award recognizing her Outstanding Commitment to Faculty Development. These accolades highlight her dedication to fostering excellence in teaching and making a positive impact on the medical community.
Professional Memberships: Dr. Moyer is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Family Physicians, Arizona Academy of Family Physicians, American Geriatric Society, and the Arizona Geriatric Society. She is committed to advancing the field of Geriatric and Family Medicine through continuous learning and collaboration with colleagues.
Personal Interests: Outside of her professional work, Dr. Moyer enjoys hiking, painting, and traveling. Most of her free time is spent with her two daughters, husband and two dogs.
