Robert Ferguson comes to the CAI after receiving his PhD from the University of Georgia. His research is on the history of American political economy with an emphasis on finance and the politics of the 20th century American South. He has an article forthcoming in Business History Review that challenges the prevailing narrative about the creation of the Federal Reserve, arguing it was intended to serve populist rather than elite interests. He intends to use his time as a postdoctoral scholar at the Center to turn his dissertation on the Southern origins of postwar American internationalism into a book. Before embarking on his PhD program, Rob spent 10 years in the western Canadian financial services sector and received a master's degree in 19th century Russian history from the University of Alberta. He is also married with two young kids.
