Heather Baier is a computational geographer whose work bridges geography, artificial intelligence, and data science to understand human and environmental systems. Her research develops spatial deep learning methods that integrate satellite imagery with geospatial data, with a particular focus on how place, scale, and spatial uncertainty shape model performance and interpretation. She studies how geospatial AI can be applied to questions of mobility, inequality, education, and development, while also advancing methods that address challenges unique to spatial data, such as spatial imprecision and autocorrelation.
