Dr. Jeremiah D. Osborne-Gowey is an Associate Research Scientist at Arizona State University's Global Futures Laboratory, where he contributes to the Arizona Water Innovation Initiative. Previously, he served as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Texas A&M University's Department of Geography and maintains active research affiliations at Texas A&M and with the University of Colorado Boulder.
Dr. Osborne-Gowey is an interdisciplinary environmental social scientist examining how social connections influence human responses to environmental challenges. His research focuses on community resilience and adaptation to environmental stressors, particularly how social capital shapes environmental decision-making in vulnerable communities. Through mixed-methods approaches, he investigates how climate impacts and resource scarcity affect community well-being globally. Jeremiah currently leads research on household water insecurity as a key member of the Household Water Insecurity Experiences Research Coordination Network (HWISE-RCN). His recent work includes developing household water insecurity scales for the United States and examining climate policy coverage in media, with publications in PLOS Water, PLOS One, and The Lancet Planetary Health. His research in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and the United States reveals how social networks shape responses to environmental challenges, informing equitable approaches to building community resilience.
Dr. Osborne-Gowey earned his PhD in Environmental Studies from the University of Colorado Boulder, with additional graduate degrees in Public Policy and Fisheries Sciences from Oregon State University. His work bridges quantitative methods, social science, and environmental policy, with particular expertise in computational social science and mixed-methods research approaches. Drawing from over 15 years of experience as an aquatic/landscape ecologist with federal and state agencies, universities, and consulting firms throughout the Western United States, he bridges research, policy, and practice to advance understanding of human-environment relationships.
When not immersed in research, Jeremiah enjoys spending time outdoors with his partner and children. His favorite activities include camping, backpacking, fishing, hunting, forest foraging, fly tying, photography, gardening, geocaching, and homebrewing. A lifelong naturalist and "forever fisherman," he speaks from the heart about the connections between people and the natural world.
