James Carvalho joined ASU Enterprise Technology (ET) in May of 2021 as part of both the APARS support team and the SaaS Systems Administrators group. He is currently part of the Systems Analysis Chapter and an administrator for the Academic Personnel Actions Reporting System (APARS). He has over 32 years of experience working at ASU in the areas related to data extraction, exploration, cleansing, merging, analytics and reporting.
He began his ASU career at central IT (now called ET) and worked for the Computing Site Operations for a year. He then worked for the research and instructional group at central IT for 14 years, supporting faculty and other researchers at ASU with their data analysis and use of various site licensed software and systems. While at IT, he served as an administrator for the Academic SAP ERP system, compiled and built AFS and SSH clients on several UNIX related systems (Linux, SUN Solaris, IBM AIX, IRIX, MacOS, and HP-UX), compiled and built Microsoft Excel plug-ins for statistical analysis, created and maintained IT user documentation and software download sites, and conducted software and system-related workshops. He later worked for the ASU Library, where he configured and managed its cloud based management system for automatic monthly harvesting of patrons usage data directly from third party data servers, analyzed the monthly patron use data for over two million online electronic resources, and compiled and reported ASU and library wide metrics to various external stakeholders.
