Vince Micone has a proven ability to build coalitions, lead transformational change, and deliver results in complex, multibillion-dollar organizations. A public sector executive, local government leader, educator, and nonprofit board member, he has more than three decades of experience strengthening public institutions, advancing effective governance, and preparing the next generation of public servants.
Vince currently serves as Chief of Staff at the National League of Cities (NLC), the nation’s premier organization representing and advocating for America’s cities, towns, and villages. In this role, he serves as the CEO’s principal strategic and operational partner, helping to define and execute organizational priorities, guide strategic planning, strengthen governance and board engagement, and drive cross-functional collaboration across the organization. He works closely with NLC’s Senior Executive Team to advance initiatives that support local leaders, influence federal policy, and promote innovative solutions to challenges facing communities nationwide.
In addition to his work at NLC, Vince serves as Professor of Practice in the School of Public Affairs within Arizona State University’s Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions, where he helps prepare future public service leaders. He also serves as an elected Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner and Chair of Advisory Neighborhood Commission 4E in Washington, DC, representing the Crestwood and 16th Street Heights neighborhoods.
Prior to joining NLC, Vince served in senior executive leadership roles across the federal government, including at the U.S. Departments of Labor, Commerce, Homeland Security, the Treasury, and Justice. Most recently, he was the senior career official responsible for mission support operations at the U.S. Department of Labor. As Deputy Assistant Secretary for Operations, he led human resources, procurement, facilities, civil rights, emergency management, security, administrative services, and employee safety and health functions serving a nationwide federal workforce. During the Presidential transition, he served as Acting Secretary of Labor, ensuring continuity of operations across the Department.
Throughout his career, Vince has focused on helping organizations improve performance, manage change, strengthen leadership, and deliver mission results. His experience spans strategic planning, governance, shared services, legislative affairs, workforce management, organizational transformation, and operational excellence.
His commitment to public service extends beyond his professional roles. For more than two decades, Vince served as Co-Chair of the Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area, helping raise more than $800 million for charitable organizations. He previously chaired the DC Commission on National and Community Service and served for seven years as a Reserve Police Officer with the Metropolitan Police Department.
Vince was elected a Fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration in 2016 and currently serves on its Board of Directors. In 2026, he was recognized as one of the nation’s Local Government 250 Champions for his contributions to public service and civic leadership.
Vince is a proud Sun Devil!
