Tony de la Hoya

I’m a transfer student in Barrett, The Honors College, earning a BS in Health Care Coordination through the Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation at Arizona State University. I plan to continue into the accelerated (4+1) Master of Health Care Innovation. My studies grow out of my own journey through the healthcare system and a commitment to community service and advocacy.

Professionally, I work in Enrollment & Retention for Medicaid beneficiaries in California. My goal is to move from services delivered over the phone to direct, personal engagement: educating, empowering, and advocating for care in underserved communities. My lived experience navigating chronic care and recovery has shown me how gaps in access, health knowledge, and motivation drive health disparities and too often delay proper diagnosis and treatment.

Guided by strong life principles and a commitment to continuous growth, I aim to give back what was freely given to me. I hope to help others build the motivation and life skills that support them mentally, physically, spiritually, and economically.

Outside my health studies, I have a deep academic interest in structural geology and petrology. As a member of the Geological Society of America and the ASU GeoClub, I find that identifying rock formations and exploring fault lines balances my coursework, combining intellectual curiosity with outdoor adventure.
