My “Why” Story – André Tucker

My journey to Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) started with a desire to help people learn, grow, and succeed.

I earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Anthropology from the University of the District of Columbia and later spent more than 12 years teaching elementary students. Along the way, I also worked in higher education as a student success coach and adjunct professor.

These experiences taught me that every person learns differently and benefits from support that meets their unique needs.

My interest in ABA grew while I worked in behavioral health and supported individuals with developmental and behavioral challenges. I wanted to learn more about how behavior changes and how evidence-based practices can improve quality of life. That interest led me to Arizona State University’s Applied Behavior Analysis program and my current work as an RBT III.

Today, I see myself as a scholar-practitioner who combines sociology, education, and behavior analysis. My goal is to teach at the college level, contribute to research, and help future educators and behavior analysts make a positive impact.

My “why” is simple: I believe people do their best when they are understood, supported, and given opportunities to grow. ABA allows me to use my background in education, sociology, and human services to help others build meaningful skills and reach their goals.
