My “Why” Story – André Tucker

My journey to Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) began with a simple goal: helping people learn, grow, and succeed.

I earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Anthropology from the University of the District of Columbia and spent more than a decade serving students in K-12 and higher education. Throughout my career, I have worked as an educator, student success coach, mentor, and adjunct professor. These experiences taught me that every person learns differently and deserves support that meets their unique needs.

My interest in ABA developed while working in behavioral health and supporting individuals with developmental and behavioral challenges. I wanted to understand better how behavior changes and how evidence-based practices can help individuals build meaningful skills and improve their quality of life. That journey led me to Arizona State University’s Applied Behavior Analysis program and my work as an RBT III.

Today, I see myself as a scholar-practitioner whose work brings together education, sociology, and behavior analysis. My long-term goal is to teach at the college level, contribute to research, and prepare future educators and behavior analysts to make a positive difference in others’ lives.

My “why” is simple: I believe people are most successful when they are understood, supported, and given opportunities to grow. ABA lets me combine my experience in education, sociology, and human services to help individuals reach their goals and achieve greater independence.
