Colonel (Ret.) Jason M. Newcomer is an Associate Professor with Air University, Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. Air University develops leaders for the United States Air Force, Department of Defense, and allied nations through professional military education, graduate education, and strategic thought.
Colonel Newcomer previously served as the Vice Commandant, Squadron Officer School, Air University, Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. The school educates more than 4,200 Air Force officers, civilians, and international officers annually. Squadron Officer School prepares students to think critically, communicate effectively, collaborate, and lead in the joint environment. It serves as the foundational developmental education touchpoint in an officer’s continuum of education as they prepare to serve as senior leaders.
Colonel Newcomer entered active duty in 1998 through Basic Military Training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, as an Aircraft Maintenance Apprentice assigned to the E-4B National Airborne Operations Center. He later commissioned through the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps program. Prior to serving as Vice Commandant, he was the Commander of AFROTC Detachment 015 at Tuskegee University, Alabama, where he led a unit of 78 personnel and oversaw the development of cadets into leaders of character prepared to fight and win the nation’s wars. He has also served on the Air Staff at the Pentagon, and as a staff officer and operations chief in the Directorate of Operations at United States Cyber Command.
