Jeevan Chapagain is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Learning Engineering Institute (LEI) at Arizona State University. His research sits at the intersection of artificial intelligence in education, large language models, and automated assessment and feedback. He focuses on designing and evaluating AI-driven systems that can understand, assess, and respond to student-generated content in ways that promote deeper learning. His work explores how LLMs can be leveraged to build scalable intelligent tutoring systems, generate meaningful formative feedback, and support adaptive learning experiences that meet students where they are.
Jeevan holds a PhD and MS in Computer Science from the University of Memphis. His doctoral research centered on automated assessment of student self-explanation in code comprehension using pre-trained language models.
Beyond his main research, Jeevan is also interested in NLP for low-resource languages, especially Nepali, where he has worked on creating benchmark datasets and developing algorithms for named entity recognition, including EverestNER and DanfeNER.
