Josuhé Lozada holds a bachelor’s degree in Archaeology from the National School of Anthropology and History in Mexico City, and a master’s degree in Natural Resource Sciences and Rural Development from El Colegio de la Frontera Sur in Chiapas, Mexico. He also holds a PhD in archaeology from the National School of Anthropology and History.
He was Director of Heritage and Cultural Research at the State Council for Cultures and the Arts of Chiapas in 2010 and Director of the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Sciences and Arts of Chiapas in 2017.
He is a full-time tenured professor and researcher in the Directorate of Archaeological Studies at the National Institute of Anthropology and History, and is currently commissioner of the INAH Chiapas Center. He is a member of the National System of Researchers, Level I. He teaches in the Postgraduate Program in Archaeology of the National School of Anthropology and History under the line of research in the Archaeology of Identity. Dr. Lozada is also Adjunct Faculty in the School of Human Evolution and Social Change at Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ.
In 2023 he published the book entitled: "Rock Art in the Houses of the Gods. Landscape and Pilgrimages in the Lakes of Mensabak and Pethá, Chiapas" by the Ministry of Culture and INAH.
He is Director of the Archaeological Project Iglesia Vieja, located in Tonalá, Chiapas, and the archaeological project "Elaboration of a Database and osteological analysis of the collection of human skeletal remains of the laboratory from the Physical Anthropology Laboratory of the INAH Chiapas Center".
He participated as an archaeologist invited by the series Expedition Unknown with Josh Gates by Discovery Channel in the episode "The Lost City of the White Jaguar".
He also participated as an archaeologist invited by National Geographic in the chapter filmed in Chiapas, Mexico called "Cradle of the Maya", which premiered in the series Lost Cities with Albert Lin.
He has published more than 30 scientific articles on archaeology in Mexico and other countries, and has given numerous lectures at international conferences in the United States, France, Mexico, Guatemala, and Bolivia.
In addition to being a renowned archaeologist, he is a speleologist and scientific diver.
