Herbert Williams

Herbert Williams is an experienced criminal justice and forensic science educator with more than two decades of professional law enforcement experience. A retired police detective, Williams brings extensive field experience in criminal investigations, crime scene management, evidence collection, forensic photography, and investigative procedures into the classroom.

Williams has taught criminal justice and forensic-related courses at both the secondary and postsecondary levels and is committed to providing students with hands-on, reality-based learning experiences that connect academic concepts with professional practice. His teaching emphasizes critical thinking, crime scene documentation, forensic evidence, investigative decision-making, emergency response, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Williams holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice, a Master of Business Administration, and a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership with an emphasis in Emergency Management and Homeland Security. His graduate education is complemented by extensive specialized coursework and professional training through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and related emergency management programs. This training includes areas such as incident command, emergency preparedness and response, disaster management, critical incident coordination, and homeland security.

In addition to his teaching experience, Williams has developed and delivered specialized training for criminal justice educators and students throughout Arizona. He is the founder and CEO of the Institute for Security Preparedness (ISP), which provides industry-focused training and certification programs, including Crime Scene Management, Advanced Crime Scene Evidence Collection, and Animal Decontamination. His professional background also includes higher education administration, curriculum and program development, career and technical education, and student leadership development.

At Arizona State University, Williams integrates his experience in law enforcement, forensic investigation, emergency management, homeland security, and education to provide students with an interdisciplinary perspective on forensic science. His goal is to create engaging learning environments where students move beyond memorizing procedures and learn to analyze evidence, solve problems, communicate effectively, and apply forensic and investigative principles to complex real-world situations.
