Aminata Kilungo

Aminata Kilungo is a Teaching Professor in the Rob Walton School of Conservation Futures. She has more than eighteen years’ work experience working at the intersection of climate change, water security,  public and global health. She partners with underserved communities, from the Arizona–Sonora border to rural and urban Tanzania, to understand how a changing climate reshapes water security especially access and quality, health, and human well-being. Guided by a One Health philosophy, in which the health of people, animals, and the environment is inseparable, she pairs rigorous science with sustained community engagement, translating field evidence into interventions communities, and policymakers can use.

A dedicated educator, Dr. Kilungo has developed academic programs and certificates, including in One Health and Global Health, and she mentors students through field-based learning that connects the classroom to the communities her work serves. She brings this science directly into policy as well, having served seven years on the U.S. EPA's National Advisory Committee. She currently serves as the co-Chair for Climate Change and Health Thematic Group for RINGO, a  UNFCCC's constituency, representing health and inclusive science at UN climate discussions. Her forthcoming book with Springer Nature offers a framework for climate and health adaptation in Sub-Saharan Africa built on four pillars: water security, resilient health systems, social protection, and One Health. Across research, policy, and the classroom, her goal is to work alongside communities, scientists, and policymakers to build resilient communities that can thrive and sustain their well-being.
